Volunteer Guidelines for NOAGE’s Older Adult Support Program

Thank you for volunteering to assist older adults in our community. Volunteers have no obligation to perform any services. If you choose to perform a requested service, these guidelines will help ensure a safe and respectful experience for everyone.

Mechanics

  • Only those individuals who have executed a Waiver of Liability and Assumption of Risk
    Agreement may participate in NOAGE’s Older Adult Support Program.
  • Requests for services under the Program should be communicated to NOAGE’s Executive Director, who will share same with volunteers.

Permitted Activities

  • Minor, non-skilled tasks (errands, light household tasks, transportation, companionship, and other similar activities).

Prohibited Activities

  • Medical care, personal hygiene.
  • Home repairs, heavy lifting, or skilled labor.
  • Handling money, banking, or legal documents.

Respect & Boundaries

  • Treat all with respect, patience, and dignity; respect privacy and personal boundaries.
  • Do not accept money or significant gifts.

Safety

  • Perform only tasks you can do safely.
  • Decline unsafe or inappropriate requests.

Confidentiality

  • Keep all personal and household information private.
  • No photos or social media posts without permission.

Waiver of Liability and Assumption of Risk Agreement

I, _______________________, enter into this Waiver of Liability and Assumption of Risk Agreement (“Agreement”) with New Orleans Advocates for GLBT+ Elders (“NOAGE”), as a Volunteer and/or Recipient of Services (“Recipient”) with or from NOAGE.

1. Purpose

NOAGE coordinates volunteers to provide limited, non-professional assistance to older adults, which may include, but is not limited to: errands, light household tasks, transportation, companionship, and other similar activities (“Services”).

2. Volunteer Acknowledgment and Release

The Volunteer understands and agrees that:
  • The Volunteer is not an employee, contractor, or agent of NOAGE.
  • The Volunteer provides Services freely and without compensation.
  • The Volunteer assumes all risks associated with providing Services, including but not limited to: transportation accidents, personal injury, illness, or property damage.
  • The Volunteer, on behalf of themself, their heirs, and assigns, releases, waives, and discharges NOAGE, its directors, officers, employees, and other volunteers from any and all liability, claims, or demands arising out of or related to the Volunteer’s participation in Services, except to the extent caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct.

3. Recipient Acknowledgment and Release

The Recipient understands and agrees that:
  • Services are provided voluntarily by individuals who are not licensed professionals, caregivers, or employees of NOAGE.
  • The Services are not a substitute for medical, legal, financial, or professional care.
  • The Recipient assumes all risks associated with accepting Services, including but not limited to: personal injury, illness, or property damage.
  • The Recipient, on behalf of themself, their heirs, and assigns, releases, waives, and discharges NOAGE, its directors, officers, employees, and volunteers from any and all liability, claims, or demands arising out of or related to the Services, except to the extent caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct.
